Action on Postpartum Psychosis (APP) are the national charity supporting and advocating for mums and families affected by postpartum psychosis (PP) - a severe but treatable mental illness that begins in the days and weeks after giving birth and affects 1400 new mums in the UK each year - that's about one person diagnosed every six hours.
APP offer information and peer support, facilitate ground breaking research, raise awareness and campaign for improved services.
Their life changing, life saving peer support network helps women and families affected by postpartum psychosis feel understood, supported and less isolated.
'I remember the first time I spoke to a peer supporter on the phone from APP. I had been unwell for a long time - with psychosis, and then with deep, relentless depression. At that point, I felt completely alone in what I was going through.
But that conversation changed everything.
I couldn’t believe there were other women out there who had experienced something similar — women who understood and who had recovered. Just knowing I wasn’t alone, gave me hope that things weren’t always going to be the way they were.
The support I received, and the guidance towards the right treatment and services, helped me find a way forward. I truly believe that APP saved my life.'
A donation of £34 could help us reach out to and support a new mum affected by postpartum psychosis.
Every donation really does makes a difference. Thank you for your support.
