Dan Jones who is a member of staff at Derwen College, and Connor Barker who is the brother of a current student are taking part in the TCS London Marathon 2026.
Dan says his motivation for running the London Marathon is to improve his fitness and wellbeing. He wants to be able to push himself towards a significant achievement and be a role model for the students.
He says “I love Derwen College. All the staff and students are fantastic and if there is anything I can do to improve everyone's experience I will give it a go.”
Connor says his motivation for running the London Marathon is inspired by a close family member who sadly died 10 years ago. “It was just 2 weeks before he was meant to take part in the London Marathon, so it has always been my goal to do it for him. And to do it raising money for an amazing College which my little sister is a part of makes me even for motivated to complete it.”
He goes on to say “To see my sister excelling so rapidly in the short amount of time she has attended, makes me so proud. I am so very grateful to Derwen College for giving her the opportunity to experience aspects of independent living and supporting her every step of the way. Thank you for helping adults like Amy in achieving their dreams.”
This is an exciting moment for Dan and Connor, as well as for the College as it is the first time we have had fundraisers taking part in the London Marathon. We can't wait to watch their journey!
Dan and Connor are both raising money for Derwen Charity to support the work at Derwen College.
Derwen College is a specialist college in Shropshire for young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. Funds raised help provide exciting opportunities and experiences for students and clients to thrive.
