Adam Wymer
My Story
On 8th September 2023, my Dad, Maurice Wymer passed away from pancreatic cancer, just weeks after being diagnosed. It was sudden, aggressive, and there was nothing that could be done.
Pancreatic cancer is the deadliest common cancer. Half of people diagnosed die within just three months. That was our reality and it’s the reality for thousands of families every year.
Dad was a proud Kiwi and growing up he was always there watching us play sport, rain or shine, cheering us on from the sidelines. So now, my brother Sam and I are taking on the challenge of running the London Marathon in his memory. We’re complete beginners.
Dad would probably think we’re a bit mad for attempting it, but we know he’d be proud of us for giving it a go and we hope he’ll be watching on somewhere as we run, just as he used to.
We’re raising money for Pancreatic Cancer UK, who are working to change the future of this disease. Their researchers are developing a simple test that could detect pancreatic cancer earlier—when treatment is still possible. That test is within reach, but it needs funding and im hoping to raise as much as possible to help this amazing charity.
More recently, my mother-in-law, Kirstine Cullum, also sadly passed away from cancer. Although it wasn’t pancreatic cancer, the impact on our family was just as deep. I’m running in her memory too—because no matter the type, cancer leaves behind the same heartbreak.
We’re extremely grateful to our friends, family, and colleagues who’ve supported us so far. Your support means a lot, and it’s massively appreciated.
If you’re able to donate, you’ll be helping fund research that could save lives. Thank you for being part of this with us.
We can’t promise to be fast—but we will give it everything.
Cheers!
