My Story

Running for Mike – My London Marathon for Heartburn Cancer UK

In 2026, I’m taking on the London Marathon in memory of my dear friend, Mike Meech, who recently sadly passed away after a courageous battle with oesophageal cancer.

Mike was one of life’s genuinely good people — kind, funny, generous, and always there when you needed him. His loss has left a huge hole in the lives of everyone who knew and loved him. In running this marathon, I want to honour his memory and help raise vital funds for a cause that now means so much to me: Heartburn Cancer UK.

Oesophageal cancer is often diagnosed late, and its symptoms — such as persistent heartburn — are frequently overlooked or misunderstood. Heartburn Cancer UK works to change that through awareness, education, and support for those affected. With your help, we can make sure more people spot the signs early, get treatment sooner, and have a better chance of recovery.

I’m not a natural marathon runner — far from it - I'm not even a jogger — but every mile I run will be for Mike and for everyone facing this devastating disease. I’d be so grateful for any support you can give, whether it’s a donation, a share, or a few words of encouragement.

Let’s do something meaningful together. Let’s run for awareness. Let’s run for hope. Let’s run for Mike.

Thank you 💙
