My Story
Hiya and thank you for popping into my page....
I’m running the London Marathon in memory of my brother, Stephen.
Stephen was born with a severe heart condition and spent much of his early life under the care of Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and later specialist teams across the North West. We will always be grateful for the tireless work and support of the NHS that gave him as much chance as possible. Given the expectations at birth, he did us all proud to reach past 40.
During that time, Stephen simply got on with life. He made friends everywhere he went, perfected making the world’s best cup of tea, and never complained about his condition. He was a great little brother to me, a reliable big brother to our sisters, and a brilliant uncle to our kids.
He dealt with his condition as a matter of fact. No drama, no fuss. He just carried on. One lasting lesson he taught me was to appreciate what we have — most of us are far more fortunate than we realise.
I’m running this marathon to remember Stephen, and to support the kind of research and care that Stephen and others like him can benefit from.
Heart and circulatory diseases still kill someone in the UK every three minutes. Around 7 million people in the UK are living with these conditions. The work of the British Heart Foundation (BHF) is critical in changing those outcomes.
The British Heart Foundation:
Funds research – As the UK’s largest independent funder of cardiovascular research, the BHF commits over £100 million annually to breakthroughs in AI, genomics and regenerative medicine.
Saves lives – Its funding helps reduce the impact of heart and circulatory diseases across the UK.
Improves care and education – Donations support cardiac nurses, provide trusted patient information, and advance diagnosis and treatment, including pioneering pacemaker technology.
Supports prevention – The BHF funds community defibrillators and CPR training to increase survival rates when cardiac arrest happens.
Continued research means better survival, better quality of life, and better outcomes for others born with or developing heart disease.
If you’re able to donate, thank you. Every contribution will support life-saving research and practical action that makes a measurable difference.
I appreciate your support.
Andy
