My Story
I am running in memory of our beautiful son, Sam, who passed away on 8th March 2025 after contracting bacterial meningitis that went undiagnosed. He was a funny, kind-hearted 19 year old with a bright future ahead of him. We miss him immensely and always will.
Whilst nothing I can do will bring my son back, to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of meningitis and to help raise funds to support research into the disease will be of some comfort. If you can sponsor me the price of a cup of coffee, or a pint of beer (if you are feeling generous!) I would be extremely grateful. Whilst I do like to run, I have never gone beyond a half marathon. I'm aiming to double that distance for Sam.
Teenagers and young adults are at higher risk of meningitis so please make sure they are protected and that they are aware of the signs and symptoms. Meningitis can be easily mistaken for flu or even a hangover. We did not realise Sam was critically ill because he was a young, fit teenager and that unintentionally went some way to masking the severity of his illness.

If you are in the UK and over 14 and under 25, you can make sure you have had your free MenACWY vaccine by checking with your doctor or in your health record (often called the red book in the UK). Those who missed the vaccine at school can get it before their 25th birthday by asking their doctor.
