My Story

26.2 miles in support of the South Sudan Girl Guides Association and the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS)

I'll do the running - you do the donating!

Imagine being able to help a girl in South Sudan, all from the comfort of your computer or phone?

The South Sudan Girl Guides are an amazing organisation, who work with girls and young women across the word's newest nation.

South Sudan has endured years of fighting and conflict. The South Sudan Girl Guides support their members and local communities by running games, activities and camps for Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers from every tribe - and they are at the heart of promoting peace.

Our challenge is to raise the funds for the South Sudan Girl Guides Association's annual membership fee to WAGGGS (World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts). That way, the South Sudan Girl Guides Association can focus money raised in-country on activities for girls in South Sudan, rather than having to worry about international administration fees.

Half of the money raised will go to a restriced fund to support South Sudan Girl Guides Association members take part in WAGGGS-related activities - e.g. attending WAGGGS trainings and conferences and be put towards the pot for the organisation's WAGGGS registration fees.

The other half will be used for the benefit of WAGGGS members accross the world.

London Marathon

To help raise the money, I'm undertaking my biggest running challenge yet: the London Marathon. It's 26.2 miles / 41.2 KM - that's about the distance between Eye Radio to Juba Airport and back - twice.

I've never run so far in my life and need your help!

All you need to do is sponsor me (and/or share this post with your friends).

All donations towards this wonderful cause are most gratefully recieved - and if you are a UK taxpayer, don't forget to tick the 'Gift Aid' box to make your money go even further.

Thank you for helping the South Sudan Girl Guides Association and WAGGGS!

About WAGGGS

The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts is the largest voluntary Movement dedicated to girls and young women in the world. Our diverse Movement represents 11.2 million girls and young women from 153 countries.

For more than 100 years Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting has transformed the lives of girls and young women worldwide, supporting and empowering them to achieve their fullest potential and become responsible citizens of the world.

Our strengths lie in innovative non-formal education programmes, leadership development, advocacy and community action, empowering girls and young women to develop the skills and confidence needed to make positive changes in their lives, in their communities and countries.

About the London Marathon

The London Marathon has become an annual, inspiring and colourful fixture in the world’s sporting calendar since the inaugural race on 29 March 1981: a celebration of fun, fundraising and fancy dress.

Over the years more than a million people have completed the 26.2-mile course – which runs from Blackheath to The Mall, with a spectacular finish in front of Buckingham Palace, showcasing the very best that the capital city has to offer.

What’s more, these participants have raised over a billion pounds for charity and there have been countless amazing tales of human achievement throughout the event’s history – living up to its aim of helping participants ‘to have fun, and provide some happiness and sense of achievement in a troubled world’.

Thank you for supporting the South Sudan Girl Guides Associaton and WAGGGS - your donation means so much.
