My Story

At the beginning of 2025, I lost my grandma to dementia. Watching her battle this disease was devastating, but what stayed with me most was seeing my mum and my uncle’s family care for her every single day, carrying the pain of losing her piece by piece while still showing up for her with love.

Dementia does not just affect the person living with it, it impacts the whole family. The confusion, the small daily losses, the fleeting moments of recognition that come and go, they slowly wear you down. And yet families keep going, because love has no limits.

Anyone who knows me will tell you I am not a natural runner. I have flat feet, dodgy knees, and looove a takeaway. Running a marathon is completely outside my comfort zone, and honestly something I am not sure I can achieve. But I want to take on this challenge in memory of my grandma, and to reflect, even in a small way, the daily struggles families face when living with dementia.

This marathon is not just for her. It is for my mum, my uncle, and every family who has had to say goodbye long before the end. It is also for Dementia UK, whose Admiral Nurses provide expert care and support to families at the time they need it most.

My grandma was fortunate to have her children by her side. Too many families do not have that support, and are left to navigate the emotional and practical challenges of dementia on their own. Dementia UK provides the lifeline they need, offering guidance, reassurance and expert care that truly makes a difference.

With your help, more families can access this vital support. Every donation, big or small, will go directly towards helping families facing dementia today. Please give what you can and help me turn every mile of this marathon into hope for someone who needs it.

Thank you,

Arron :)
