My Story
About us
The London Marathon has become an annual, inspiring fixture in the world’s sporting calendar since the inaugural race on 29 March 1981: a celebration of fun, fundraising and fancy dress.
Over the years more than a million people have completed the 26.2-mile course – I'm going to run it!
About me
My name is Ben Cirne, I'm 33 & not a runner... seems strange that I would be putting myself through running a full marathon despite my body not being able to carry me very far without hurting. At the time of writing this, I'm overweight, have back pain and can barely run 5k....this whole journey is about changing & testing myself to the fullest whilst raising as much money for a charity that's very close to my heart, The Sick Children's Trust.
Back in 2019 my son Hugo was born. Unfortunately, he did not have the birth we all hoped for after being unable to breathe his first few breaths! All the emotions in the world kick in amongst the bright red lights flashing and the panic in the room, we were told Hugo may not make it.
Hugo was put on a cooling mat for 3 days to stop his brain from taking too much damage due to lack of oxygen and we were rushed to Adenbrooks Hospital in Cambridge. In Adenbrooks we await for an update... whilst we wait, we were met by the fantastic staff at The Sick Children's Trust. The staff were incredibly supportive and gave us a place to stay and use whilst Hugo and my amazing partner, Claudia recovered. Having that room and place to stay on a floor beneath Hugo was so reassuring and financially saved us.
Thankfully, Hugo made a full recovery but the stories from other parents staying on the same floor would stick with me forever. I would consider ourselves extremely lucky to still have Hugo and for him to be at full strength.
I'm doing this to help raise funds for a Charity that supported us and continues to help and support parents going through tough times. This money will help go towards everything that is needed to help support parents going through so much!
My training has started, physio for my body is going well and getting comfortable running! I'm ready to go get this!
Please donate what you can to help a great cause. Thank you.
