My Story
Hi, thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
Over the last 8 or so years my eyesight gradually declined due to retinal dystrophy and so I'm now at the point where for the last few years I've been classified as visually impaired.
It's meant I've had to give up my job as a roofer / cladder manager and fixer and have been unable to drive for a few years.
Life is hard at times but I try and stay positive and try to keep doing the things I enjoy.
I've been running for over 10 years now and became a leader at my local run group On The Run Aylesbury & Pitstone 8 years ago. I love the leading, helping others improve their lives through fitness & running.
We also organise annual Couch to 5K programs where we regularly help around 20 or so runners through the course which gives me a fantastic feeling when seeing their smiling proud faces at their graduation!
I still run & lead, obviously it's not so easy now and I have to pick runs / routes without too many obstacles. I have the support of my partner & friends like Dave who will act as my guide during the training and race itself.
The RNIB have offered me support via phone calls and liaising with local authority support. I also have access to their free talking books service which has been a fantastic boost, giving me access to seemingly endless quantities of books all at no cost.
For their supporting me I would love to raise funds for them so they can continue their great work.
=====
Everyday 250 people begin to lose their sight in the UK. RNIB's focus is to create a world where there are no barriers to people with sight loss.
Please support me as I take on this huge challenge for RNIB!
Here are just some of the ways your donation could help:
- £50 could help someone coming to terms with sight loss by providing emotional support and practical guidance through our Sight Loss Advice Service, both on the telephone and online.
- £35 could help provide support and advice to a parent of a child with vision impairment, who has contacted RNIB for the first time.
- £25 could help produce a lively and interactive technology show on RNIB's Connect Radio, demonstrating how an app or device can help people with sight loss communicate easily with family and friends, or navigate their way around town.
