My Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page...
In April this year I will be running 26 long miles to raise money for CARM (Caring Altogether on Romney Marsh) which is a truly wonderful charity. CARM works with mainly older people living in Kent who are socially isolated and / or lonely. Through this support, CARM aims to improve people's health and well-being, bring joy into their lives, form friendships and to help people remain independent for longer as well as enhance quality of life. I have been working for CARM for over a year and have seen first hand the incredible work that is done day to day and the enormous number of people that are helped on a small budget. I am trying to raise £3000 to help them maintain and develop the amazing work they do and any donation made will be so greatly appreciated.
I am a very busy single Mum of 4 children who are 10, 8, 6 and 4 and although I have always enjoyed running, (and completed the Berlin marathon in 2009 pre kids) I do prefer runs that are short and sweet! 26 miles will be a big big challenge for me and training will fit in around chasing after the children, who don't give me much time to rest! Juno our English pointer is thrilled to hear there are going to be lots more running opportunities - she can outrun us all! I will be channeling the endless energy of my children and our dog as I make my way round London in April!
Thank you so much, Caroline xx
Below is some more information about what CARM offers people:
Befriending
CARM’s befriending service provides regular home visits or telephone calls by volunteers for people who have become socially isolated due to old age, ill health, disability or bereavement.
Meeting Points
Meeting Points are social drop-ins in villages and coastal communities throughout the Romney Marsh and parts of Tenterden areas. The Meeting Points are run by volunteers, supported by CARM's Meeting Points co-ordinator. Meeting Points provide a local point of contact for meeting old friends and new, in a friendly and welcoming environment. Everyone is welcome, and refreshments are available.
Reminiscence
Reminiscing (sharing memories) is a positive experience, helping those that take part to feel valued and listened to. Most important of all the sessions are great fun. The sessions are facilitated by trained volunteers, using a variety of props as triggers to encourage memories. The service is managed by a paid coordinator.
