My Story
About us
The London Marathon has become an annual, inspiring and colourful fixture in the world’s sporting calendar since the inaugural race on 29 March 1981: a celebration of fun, fundraising and fancy dress.
I’m taking on my very first marathon to raise funds for Crohn's & Colitis UK—a cause that has become deeply personal to me through both my work and the people I’ve met along the way. As a registrar in General Surgery, I regularly care for patients living with inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. I’ve seen firsthand how unpredictable and exhausting these conditions can be, not just physically but emotionally too. What has always stayed with me is the resilience, courage, and humour that so many patients show despite everything they’re dealing with.
This marathon feels like a small but meaningful way of standing alongside them. While I’ll be challenging myself to get round the course and soaking up the incredible, one-of-a-kind atmosphere that makes the London Marathon so special, I know that the determination it takes to keep going for those 26.2 miles is nothing compared to what many people with IBD face every single day. My goal is simply to cross the finish line, but also to help raise awareness of these chronic conditions, support vital research, and contribute to better care and understanding.
I’m truly grateful for every donation, no matter the size—each one is a gesture of love and support for those living with these conditions, and a reminder that they are not facing this journey alone. Every step I take is for the patients who inspire me daily, and for everyone living with IBD—sending strength, solidarity, and encouragement all the way to the finish line.
