Charlotte Hardy
My Story
Hello all
Firstly huge thankyou for coming to look at my page to find out my reason why i am taking part in the London Marathon 2026 for WISHH charity in Cottingham East Yorkshire .
The queens centre at Castle Hill is a specific oncology hospital and have inpatient and outpatient departments.
So little about our story i am Charlotte i am Geralds daughter and in 2018 Gerry (Dad) was diagnosed with T4 Tonsil cancer our worlds was shattered, how could a life enjoying man in his 50s who had just become a grandad for the second time be diagnosed with such an aggresive cancer. From the moment he was diagnosed he received outstanding care from Queens at castle hill and the ENT department . He had a macmillan nurse and a wonderful team right at the end of the phone if he had any concerns. During his cancer treatment he became acutley unwell and stayed on ward 30 castle hill and ward 32 and when i say these people are angels i truly mean it , they work long hours, work in a very highly emotive field of nursing . From the housekeepers who popped in for a chat or the care assistants, the students, the ward manager and the nurses they was all wonderful. I mean nobody wants to be in an oncology hospital but they brought sparkle and joy to the patients and their families. I had a bed right next to dad and i would rarely leave his side but in the morning whilst dad was having a wash i would go down to the coffee shop in queens . These people was my respite and they really made me smile. Just a small thing as a fresh coffee ( delicious by the way) was for me a 10 mins respite to continue caring for dad. The radiotherapy team and the team in the Oncology day unit was amazing . Dad moved from queens to Dove House Hospice and sadly and devastingly died 29th April 2024 aged just 62 . Dad was the most generous kind hearted although super cheeky man i ever met and how lucky i got to call him my dad. So here is me getting my running trainers on once more and final time to do the Amazing London Marathon for WISHH charity to raise funds for them to help others that need the hospital.
Thankyou all so much Charlotte and Gerry
