My Story
Archway is a vital Aberdeen-based charity who provide life-changing support and care for people with learning disabilities and their families.
Established in the 1980s, Archway is Aberdeen's first parent-led charity and celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. Their dedicated workforce deliver a range of community-based services including permanent care, supported living, holiday respite breaks, emergency respite, and day activities.
Fundraising remains a key priority and indeed necessity for Archway, and I was delighted to become one of five hardy-souls/"athletes"/idiots (delete as you see fit!) who were scheduled running the 2026 London Marathon on behalf of Archway.
Unfortunately disaster struck towards the end of my marathon training, when I picked up a stress fracture just three weeks before the London Marathon.
I was forced to withdraw from the event itself, but in order to merit the kind donations that have come my way to date I am using my injury rehab (swimming + cycling) as an excuse to now train for a different challenge all together.
By the end of summer 2026, I am going to complete an olympic triathlon, which is 51.5km (32 miles) of swimming, cycling, and running.
Rather than committing to a specific event, this will be a DIY triathlon, in Aberdeen, meaning everyone can come along to watch/point/laugh, and even join me for some of the distance if they wish.
I will confirm a date, time and venue as soon as possible, once my injury has cleared up enough to get started with the running portion of my training.
Many thanks again for the support and kind donations to date - both are beyond appreciated.
