About us
The London Marathon has become an annual, inspiring and colourful fixture in the world’s sporting calendar since the inaugural race on 29 March 1981: a celebration of fun, fundraising and fancy dress.
Over the years more than a million people have completed the 26.2-mile course – which runs from Blackheath to The Mall, with a spectacular finish in front of Buckingham Palace, showcasing the very best that the capital city has to offer.
What’s more, these participants have raised over a billion pounds for charity and there have been countless amazing tales of human achievement throughout the event’s history – living up to its aim of helping participants ‘to have fun, and provide some happiness and sense of achievement in a troubled world’.
Hi
I am looking forward to representing u3a in London on 26 April 2026 and raise money for such an amazing organisation.
I am a relatively new member having retired on 30 June this year. I was a bit anxious at joining the organisation as i was unsure what they could offer me. I have to say i have been bowled over and when I joined my local u3a in Charnwood. I have been pleasantly surprised at the warm welcome I have had from members welcoming me to various groups and events.
u3a encourages retired people to access a wide variety of local groups and clubs to help keep you fit and promote wellbeing . It is a wonderful enthusiastic organisation which is run by local group members who demonstrate skills and talent they generously share with other peers.
Like all charities they require funds to ensure the wonderful work they do continues for current and future members. As one day we will all need the support of others to adjust to retirement and a helping hand to access like-minded people and enjoying good physical and mental health.
I hope you like my story and share with me my journey in embarking on the challenge of running 26 miles by kindly donating some money to help ensure all of us have the good fortune to have access to such a worthwhile organisation as u3a now and future.
u3a changes lives by helping build vibrant, inclusive communities where older people can stay active, connected and engaged. Your support enables us, the Third Age Trust, to tackle isolation, support the well-being of our members, and create a future where later life is rich with opportunity.
By running for Team u3a, I will be raising money to help the Third Age Trust create more opportunities for u3a members to learn, find connection and live life to the full. Together, we can combat loneliness and make sure everyone has a positive experience of later life.
Thanks for your support
Best wishes
Clive
