Dan's Marathon Fundraiser
My Story
Why I'm here
I head a team of 16 dedicated runners that will be tackling the 26.2 miles of our capitals finest streets. I also run the marathon as well, with my own goals to achieve.
My main aim is to raise awareness for the fantastic work our little local Cornish charity does, and to support the rest of the team to maximise their fundraising efforts.
This year, we are raising funds to supply every pub and club in Cornwall with a trauma bleed kit. This follows on from last year’s work of supplying these to every school in the county.
Unfortunately the world we live in now, does mean that these kits are a vital need to help 'buy time' for emergency services to arrive, should the worst happen.
For the new runners I assist with help and guidance to help them achieve their personal marathon goal, and support them by taking care of all the travel and accommodation plans.
Each of the 16 runners just has to get to their pickup point on the Saturday morning, and I ensure the coach collects them, gets us all to Exel to register, and the back to our hotel I have booked for the night. I try to build a bond by organising for us all to eat together, before getting a good night sleep before the big day.
On marathon day, I ensure that everyone is at the start on time ready to go. The 26 miles is down to the individual, but then I gather everyone together to get a team finishers photo, and return us all back to our fine county of Cornwall.
Supported by
This year we have the great honour of having the support of Cornwall only independent commercial radio station – Cornwall’s Rewind Radio.
From multiple shout outs, Kernow Conversations and messages of encouragement for the team – Cornwall supporting Cornwall.
All that Fleet do
I have only scratched the surface on Fleet’s current efforts. The charity has many more strings to its bow, and a substantial history of what we have done to date.

The London Marathon
The London Marathon has become an annual, inspiring and colourful fixture in the world’s sporting calendar since the inaugural race on 29 March 1981: a celebration of fun, fundraising and fancy dress.
Over the years more than a million people have completed the 26.2-mile course – which runs from Blackheath to The Mall, with a spectacular finish in front of Buckingham Palace, showcasing the very best that the capital city has to offer.
What’s more, these participants have raised over a billion pounds for charity and there have been countless amazing tales of human achievement throughout the event’s history – living up to its aim of helping participants ‘to have fun, and provide some happiness and sense of achievement in a troubled world’.
