My Story

Chuf's vision is to support pioneering services that will positively impact heart families, inspire hope and enable Heart Heroes to reach their full potential. Chuf supports children and families who receive treatment at the Children's Heart Unit based at the Freeman Hospital and the many other hospitals providing care for cardiac patients throughout the North of England.

My commitment to this cause is personal. I run in memory of Jemma and Michael Telford. Jemma's passing in 2016 at the age of 32 from heart failure, shortly after giving birth to her second son, was a tragic loss. Michael, her devoted husband and my close friend, passed away in 2021 at the age of 40, leaving their two boys in the care of family.

Michael was my greatest supporter. Even during his own health struggles, he never failed to encourage me, expressing how proud he and Jemma were. Their memory fuels my determination, knowing they're cheering me on from above with every step I take.

My journey with CHUF began in 2015 when Jemma fell ill. The support for her from the staff at Freeman Hospital, particularly those in the Paediatric Heart Unit and ICU Ward, was truly amazing. Their tireless efforts to save Jemma and their compassionate care embody the hospital's dedication.

Though Jemma was an adult, the team's care for her since childhood illustrates their commitment. I am honored to raise funds that will support their life-saving work and honour Jemma and Michael's legacy.

Please join me in supporting this remarkable charity, which holds a special place in the hearts of many families across the North East.
