Running the TCS London Marathon 2026 for Marie Curie
Fiona Gallie
My Story
My lovely Mum, Ann, sadly passed away in February 2023 from bowel cancer that had spread to her lungs then brain. She was only 66.
I miss her dearly every single day. She was a ray of light. Sharp witted and always full of fun - even during her illness she still managed to keep her sense of humour.
She was a district nurse and I know how much she cared for her patients over the years. The Marie Curie nurses were then able to do the same for her during her final days. They helped her and my family immensely meaning that my Mum was made comfortable at home and we could be by her side when she passed away.
I started running to partly help deal with grief. My Mum lost all mobility by the end so this also motivates me to run as I know I still can. Grief is very difficult and it is about managing it as it never really goes away so I want to do something to keep my Mum's memory alive, and to give back to such an amazing charity to help other families during difficult times.
I feel very lucky to have secured a place in the London Marathon 2026, especially due to Marie Curie being the official charity partner. I know my Mum will be by my side, cheering me on even if she thinks I am bonkers for doing a marathon! 💛
Thank you so much for your support.
