My Story
Why am I running?
Hi everyone! My name is Gabriel, I'm 22, and I'll be taking on the TCS London Marathon in April 2026 in support of FARA, a charity that's been a huge part of my life.
Having watched many competitive marathons on TV and having been there in person on a few occasions too, running the London Marathon has always been a dream of mine. I have been running since I was about 8 years old, competing in competitions for my school, club and borough in cross-country and road-running events, and I've even run in the London Mini-Marathon multiple times. Now I'm ready for a massive step-up, and I mean that literally, as I'll be running 20 miles more than I had previously ever ran before! I’d gratefully appreciate your support, whether that be in the form of a donation or simply a kind message, anything to help keep me motivated!
Why FARA?
Since 1991, FARA has been dedicated to supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged children, young adults, and families in Romania, helping them access opportunities and support that many of us take for granted.
Through its projects, FARA helps children access education, enables parents to obtain therapy for children with disabilities so they can attend mainstream schools, and provides vital independent living support to help reduce homelessness. The charity also provides hot school lunches, creates safe and loving homes for adults with disabilities, and offers vulnerable children a stable home when they need it most.
As I mentioned before, FARA is especially close to my heart. I’ve personally been involved with the charity for over 8 years, first volunteering in one of our shops for my Bronze DofE in 2018, then volunteering in our warehouse during the Covid pandemic and since then working for over 5 years in our shops during my school and university holidays. Having seen some of the work FARA does first-hand, I know that every donation truly makes a difference.
It’s a huge honour for me to be running the London Marathon in support of FARA, and I’m incredibly proud to represent a charity that means so much to me.
