My Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! On Sunday 26 April 2026 I will be taking on the TCS London Marathon to raise money for Breakthrough T1D, the type 1 diabetes charity.

My nephew Paddy was diagnosed with type 1 Diabetes when he was 2 years old and Breakthrough T1D have been an amazing support to my brother and his family whilst navigating his diagnosis. Watching how much it impacts their lives- from the constant monitoring of blood sugar levels, the effect of different food types on those levels, along with exercise, sleep, technology, spikes and lows, it is a constant battle.

Paddy currently has the most advanced closed loop system available and the algorithm that powers that system was funded by Breakthrough T1D. It has been a complete game changer for the whole family.

Breakthrough T1D is committed to eradicating type 1 diabetes- a target that is looking increasingly achievable.

For me personally, this is going to be a huge challenge. I am very active now and enjoy exercise but I was never "sporty" when I was younger- I even went so far as painting my toe blue to get off games at school once. I only really started running after school when I discovered how much it impacted my mental health, but I have never enjoyed running long distance. Since having 2 babies, fairly close together, I am still yet to get back to my pre-baby fitness level and it's going to be a struggle to fit the training in whilst looking after them too. However, the marathon has always been on my bucket list- and I've watched my dad, my brother, my husband and countless friends put themselves through it!

Every £ raised will help Breakthrough T1D work towards to next big breakthrough in type 1 treatment, so please give generously and know that your support really matters.

Thank you!
