My First Mini Marathon & Not My Last

Haydens Mini Marathon

Haydens Mini Marathon

My Story

My 7-year-old son, Hayden, is taking on the TCS Mini London Marathon for Shine Charity.

Hayden has hydrocephalus and cerebral palsy and will be completing the marathon in his wheelchair.

He was born three months early after his mum’s waters broke at just 18 weeks, leaving him with almost no fluid for 10 incredibly difficult weeks before he arrived at 28 weeks. From his very first moments, Hayden has had to fight.

At just 11 months old, Hayden became seriously ill with sepsis and meningitis — a terrifying time for our family that he bravely overcame. More recently, he has completed his third round of Botox treatment to help strengthen his legs, continuing to show just how determined he is. Despite everything he has faced, Hayden is a loving, caring little boy who always wants to help others and never gives up.

What makes this even more special is that Hayden has already said he wants to do the marathon again next year — this time in his walking frame, if he’s strong enough. His courage, hope, and positivity inspire everyone around him, and he is incredibly proud and excited to take on this challenge.

By supporting Hayden and donating to Shine Charity, you’re helping families like ours and standing behind a truly remarkable little boy. 💛

Shine provides specialist support from before birth and throughout the life of anyone living with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus, as well as to parents, families, carers and professional care staff.
