My Story

If you're here, chances are you care about the future of racehorses once their racing careers end - a passion shared amongst a wonderful community of people.

I’m honoured to have the opportunity to raise awareness for the importance of giving former racehorses a fulfilling life after racing. That’s where Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) comes in. RoR are there for all former racehorses, offering an educational programme for owners and a competitions series which showcases their versatility. Importantly, they also provide a welfare safety net for any former racehorse that falls on hard times.

After suffering a ruptured ACL and MCL in 2024, retraining and rehabilitating my body gave me a new understanding of what racehorses go through when transitioning to new careers. Their familiar daily routines, changed without explanation. Their bodies changing in ways they’ve never experienced.

As an equine physiotherapist, I already have a strong understanding of biomechanics and physiology, but my own rehabilitation journey has given me a fresh perspective.

So, here I am, training both my body and mind to run the 2026 TCS London Marathon for RoR - and for all the incredible former racehorses (and future ones) out there 💕.

If you’re passionate about retraining racehorses or working with horses in general, I encourage you to support the incredible work RoR is doing to give these horses a purpose after their racing careers. Public support is essential to keeping this charity going.

And if you’ve ever won a bet off a racehorse, why not consider paying it forward with a donation to help secure their future? 🙏

To follow my training journey through the Cotswolds (with a few retraining and physio tips along the way), check out my social media @marillavetphysio and my blog, Racing to Post, at www.marillavetphysio.co.uk.

I can't wait to see you all at the finish line!
