Journey to the London Marathon 2026 for KDUK!
Ian Scarrott
My Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page, my overall goal is to raise £1 million for Kennedy's Disease UK (KDUK) in my lifetime... but let's start somewhere more achievable completing the London Marathon for a fourth time!
Here's my story:
In November 2024 I got diagnosed with Kennedy's disease currently I'm asymptomatic which means that I'm not showing symptoms.
It might be that I don't see this disease until the latest stages of my life if I make it that far, but what I do know is when it starts it would be a very slow progression of neck arms, legs and general muscle waistage - twice as fast as your average person.
For someone who has their business as a Run Coach and as their primary hobby as a runner, it's been devastating news.
Now, I can sit and wallow, or I can do something to help push for a cure.
The clinical team at great Ormond Street Hospital who have been dealing with me have indicated that they could be close to a cure in less than 10 years.
I'd love to see a cure and I believe with the rise in AI, and improvement that is ongoing in scientific research, and with some of the brightest minds in the world working on it, we can see this disease eradicated.
Thank you to the NHS, in particular the team at Great Ormond Street in the Kennedys disease unit, and to the physio Louie who's given me a great deal of time to help keep me asymptomatic so to speak.
Ironically the solution to prevent the onset is exercise, particularly strength and running! What a treatment hey!
Onwards to £1 million, let's do this, donate to cure Kennedy's disease today. Thank you!
