Jenny Polhill
My Story
Hi, I’m Jenny - a newly qualified nurse, a long-time volunteer, and now (somehow!) soon-to-be a marathon runner.
I’m incredibly proud to be running the London Marathon in support of Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, a place that holds a very special place in my heart.
I joined ARH in 2021, starting out as a volunteer on the Inpatient Unit. Volunteering on the IPU has brought me peace, perspective, and purpose.
For the past five years I’ve supported patients on the oncology ward and on my student nurse placement at ARH; sometimes seeing them on the ward and then a few days later in the hospice, where I always try to bring a bit of colour and cheer in my brightest dungarees.
This marathon is for the many patients I’ve cared for in hospital and as an IPU volunteer. Some have stayed with me over the years, and it’s been an honour to care for them. I’m so grateful they received the compassion and dignity ARH provides.
Running has become as much a part of my life as nursing, and now I’m qualified, I finally have the time to give back. I’ve always said I’d only run a marathon for a cause close to my heart - and for me, that’s Arthur Rank Hospice. Running for #TeamArthur feels right: doing something meaningful for myself while supporting a charity that gives so much.
Sadly, Arthur Rank Hospice has recently faced significant NHS funding cuts, impacting its ability to provide vital end-of-life care. Thanks to incredible support, beds will remain open for one more year - but continued fundraising is essential.
Your donation, no matter the size, will help ARH continue providing outstanding care to patients and families when they need it most. I’d be so grateful for your support.
Let’s do this - together. 💚
💚 About Arthur Rank Hospice Charity
Arthur Rank Hospice Charity supports people in Cambridgeshire living with serious or life-limiting illness, providing outstanding end-of-life care free of charge to patients and their families.
Each year, we care for around 3,800 patients across our Hospice in Cambridge, the Alan Hudson Centre in Wisbech, and in people’s homes.
It costs £14 million a year to run our services, with £5.9 million needing to be raised through donations. Thank you for helping us continue this vital care.
