Jo's London Marathon 2026
Joanne Roche
My Story
I was fortunate enough to secure a ballot place in the 2026 London Marathon, and I’ve decided to use this incredible opportunity to raise money for the British Heart Foundation — a charity that is very close to my heart and my family.
Without the research funded by the BHF, the outcomes for many people living with cardiovascular conditions could be very different.
In 2011, my dad underwent open-heart surgery after doctors discovered an undiagnosed hole in his heart where a blood clot had formed. He was transferred from our local hospital to the Royal Brompton Hospital in London and then to Papworth Hospital in Cambridgeshire for treatment. Thanks to the expertise of the teams there and advances in cardiac care, he was up and about and back home within a week.
More recently, my daughter was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome which required surgery earlier this year. During that time, a call to the BHF helped put my mind at ease and guided us through the process of getting additional checks for family members.
Research, support, and information like this make an enormous difference to families like mine.
If you’re able to support my London Marathon challenge and help the BHF continue their life-saving work, I would be incredibly grateful.
