My Story

My little sister Mabel was born at 27wks and spent her first 3 months of life in hospital. Once home then Mabel started to get sick with urine infections.

Which ended her in hospital many times, they started to investigate and mum, and dad got a call to have an appointment at LGI Hospital little did we know what a massive part they were to play in Mabel’s life.

Mabel was diagnosed with Nephrocalcinosis, her kidneys were both packed with stones.

She has had to date 42 surgeries and at 12 years old.

Not only has it effected her kidneys, she had surgery for her bowel she had a Nissen Fundoplication to twist her stomach so she will never be sick again or burp.

She is fed through a peg into her tummy which without she wouldn't be here. The endless hospital stays surgeries appointments tests scans have made a massive impact on Mabel life and us as a family.

To look at Mabel unless you saw her tube you would think she was like every other little 12year old but her little body on the inside isn't.

Her strength and fight amazes us as a family and together we get though.

At 13 I was taught how to use the feeding pump do her meds and know when her tube needs venting due to her not being able to be sick or burp anymore.

Mabel has had several hospital admissions one of them being due to her kidneys passing a 12 mm kidney stone which caused serious infection

Mabel is my inspiration.

My best friend.

My whole world.

There are no words strong enough to describe how proud I am of her — how fiercely brave, kind, and full of light she is, no matter what life throws her way.

So I’ll run.

I’ll run through the pain, the blisters, the exhaustion.

Because what she’s endured can never be matched by miles on a road.

But this is something I can do — to honour her, to fight alongside her, and to help raise awareness for children like her and families like ours.

Running the London Marathon is my way of showing Mabel — and the world — just how much she means to me. She’s the reason behind every single step I’ll take, and I’ll carry her spirit with me every mile.
