My Story
About us
As a family it felt like we were on our own. So I asked about the Sebastians Trust and made an expression of interest referral from the oncologist consultant. This was 2019, they felt that the trust offered more support for all the family including the siblings. We were going through an incredibly difficult time with our son and financial pressures to maintain our family home.
The choice for my partner to go back to work was a tough one but essential as we had no other income coming in at that time. Even more so, we were isolating due to our son’s low immunity and then Covid hit, which meant that all the children had to stay home. This is the hardest situation to face without support we would have had serious consequences for our son. Keeping the communication with us helped to lower stress levels. We were better able to make difficult decisions and had another way to ask for help that didn’t exist. Our parents were too ill themselves to offer support and not emotionally available to understand the situation we faced at that time. Sebastians Trust offered a listening ear that did not judge, accuse or blame but took time to acknowledge then provide the right support that was achievable for us on a week to week basis.
I am raising money for Sebastians to continue their incredible work with families of children with life limiting illness. The bereavement care and counselling enables comfort and support at a time when you feel no one understands. Our family is incredibly grateful for their time and resources to keep families together with a range of activities and courses.
Every donation no matter how much will make a difference. It has to our family and many others we know within Sebastians Trust Community.
