My Story
No this is not a birthday mid life crisis decision, I have actually been working towards this since June last year, but being honest I wanted to leave it until I felt the end goal was achievable.
Many of you will know that this is not my first attempt at training for this, 11 years ago I was working towards taking part and got diagnosed with a heart condition and I was advised not to continue. This amongst other elements of life resulted in me losing the plot completly and putting myself in a much worse health situation than any race could have ever done.
I still have to be mindful of the condition, along with a still a non aerodynamic state. This has meant having to tailor my training and my pace setting for the day to reflect this, and keep the heart rate under control, but it’s time to complete this long standing black cloud.
Whilst I continue to try to justify this is not a midlife crisis, the main driver for getting back on track to getting this complete is an old man perspective now of wanting to start to pay back. The MS society is a charity I originally was raising funds for and one that I have seen first hand the great work they do. There are of course loads of worthwhile causes, but this is one close to my heart and one I feel need all the support I can give them
Anything you can give would be incredibly received, and I would more than welcome any one with the desire want to come and throw abuse or soft fruit as desired. If you want a really big laugh you can follow my prep on my strava, and see how the journey has been already gone on a few ups and downs but the course to 42.2km is now locked in
