My Story

Running for Frankie: A London Marathon Story of Hope and Healing

Our son Frankie was born in 2011—a happy, energetic baby who lit up every room. For years, he seemed perfectly healthy. But in 2017, everything changed.

Frankie was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect. It was shocking, frightening, and surreal. We had no idea that something so serious could remain hidden for so long. His heart—the very centre of his life—needed urgent repair. And in 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Frankie underwent major heart surgery.

The pandemic made an already difficult experience even harder. Hospital visits were restricted. We were isolated. Everything—from pre-op appointments to post-surgery recovery—was overshadowed by the fear of infection and the weight of uncertainty. But through it all, Frankie was incredible: brave, strong, and full of fight.

He made it through the operation thanks to the extraordinary skill and compassion of his medical team. The people who work in children’s heart care are quiet heroes—saving lives and supporting families through their darkest moments.

In 2021, we moved to London to begin a new chapter. And in 2026, I will run the London Marathon—in honour of Frankie, and for all the children still waiting for the surgery that could save their lives.

The London Marathon is more than a race. It’s a global symbol of hope, resilience, and generosity. Each year, it raises over £60 million for charities, and since it began in 1981, it has generated more than £1 billion in total charitable donations. It’s the world’s largest single-day fundraising event—bringing together runners from all walks of life to change lives.

I’m running to raise funds for the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund, a brilliant charity that supports children with congenital heart disease by funding surgeries, providing family support during treatment, and ensuring the best possible recovery care.

Congenital heart disease is the most common birth defect, affecting 1 in 100 babies. And while medical advancements have made survival possible, access to timely surgery and comprehensive support can make all the difference.

Today, Frankie is a thriving young lad—full of laughter, obsessed with horses, and always on the move. He’s here because he got the care he needed in time. Not every family is as fortunate.

Your donation—whatever the amount—will help another child like Frankie get their chance at life.

Thank you for reading. Thank you for giving. And thank you—for being part of this journey.
