My Story

I am running the London Marathon for the National Deaf Children's Society and the great work they do supporting deaf children and their families.

Audrey aka Gorgeous Auds

My daughter Audrey has moderate to severe hearing loss and rocks awesome purple hearing aids (currently with pink sparkly moulds!) so she can hear. Since failing her newborn hearing test its been a journey for her - mostly of being tested, poked, prodded, and scanned by a seemingly never ending stream of amazing professionals. It has also been challenging at times for us as mum, dad and big brother Benji. But Auds is a happy, confident and healthy four year old; just with an extra pair of 'ears'.

NDCS

The NDCS has been a great help to our family throughout this time. They've helped give us advice when we weren't sure what to do. And we've also loved as a family learning British Sign Language via their online family sign courses. This has helped us and Audrey massively with communication and has given her an extra language she can use to express herself when she can't get her sounds in or out.

Me and a marathon

I'm looking forward to challenging myself running a marathon for the first time, and hopefully raising lots of money for a great charity who support kids all over the country like Audrey and her many deaf friends. The NDCS have done so much for us, so I'm looking forward to giving something back. I'll keep you updated with training, but I know these legs in my 40th year of existence - and a near decade on from the last time I was doing any serious running - are going to take a battering! So give as generously as you can!

Here's how your donation could make a difference:

Deaf children are losing out on vital support as their audiology and education needs are not being met.

With your support, the National Deaf Children's Society can be there for every deaf child. Together, let's make sure nothing holds deaf children back.

Ninety-five percent of what NDCS does is funded by the public. Their work is only possible thanks to donations from people like you.

£20 could help a family that's just found out their baby is deaf get free, confidential support from the NDCS Helpline.

£50 could go towards NDCS online workshops to help families learn more about deafness and meet other parents.

£100 could contribute towards a sign language course to help parents and families.
