My Story

About us

I am fundraising for Carney’s Community, a charity I’ve supported all of my life and who I have witnessed both change and save.

Carney’s is based in Battersea, South London and support all young people, but has a primary focus on supporting those who face poverty, are in the care system, impacted by knife and/or gun crime, substance misuse, domestic abuse, have been excluded or involved in the criminal justice system.  They do this by providing a number of services, eg one to one key work, group mentoring, boxing fitness sessions, Youth work, free fit and fed meals, music and podcast production and bike maintenance programmes, whilst running two social enterprises (Carney’s Cycle’s and Carney’s coaches), which employ directly from their target group.

Carney’s aim is to reduce offending, re-offending and anti-social behaviour, whilst improving social mobility and community cohesion.  They achieve this by working differently to other organisations.  They have an ethos of providing long term, consistent and unconditional support, with underlying focus on their virtuous cycle (they do not charge participants for their services, but expect them to take the positive energy put into them, and pass that on to the next generation of young people).

They believe that by empowering young people through mentoring, participation, focusing on their strengths and learning from each other, they can improve not only their opportunities, but also those of their local communities.

What’s more, these participants have raised over a billion pounds for charity and there have been countless amazing tales of human achievement throughout the event’s history – living up to its aim of helping participants ‘to have fun, and provide some happiness and sense of achievement in a troubled world’.
