After serving as an officer in the Corps of Royal Engineers for 20 years, I'm deeply honoured to be running the 2026 London Marathon for the Royal Engineers Association - The Sapper Charity! This incredible opportunity represents both a personal milestone and a chance to give back to an institution that supported me throughout my military career.
The REA has been the backbone of our Sapper family since 1912, fostering the espirit de corps and comradeship that defines our Corps. Their mission to support serving soldiers, veterans, and families aligns perfectly with the values that shaped my two decades of service. From maintaining our proud traditions to providing crucial financial assistance to those in need, the REA ensures no member of our family faces challenges alone.
This marathon holds special significance for me. I applied three times in my twenties but never made it through the ballot. Recurring knee injuries later forced me to abandon my 26-mile dreams entirely. Now, at this stage of my life, I'm both nervous and excited to tackle my first road marathon while supporting an organisation that embodies respect, compassion, and unwavering commitment to the Sapper community.
