My Story
Last year I ran the Edinburgh marathon for a COPD charity as my dad had sadly just passed of the horrible condition. This year I have changed my focus to raise money for an organisation that has had a very positive impact on my mums life, both whilst she was caring for my dad, and also now he is no longer with us.
The u3a has provided an important source of connection for my mum, during times that could've been very lonely and isolating, providing learning opportunities and experiences like Tai Chi, which has become a great way of meeting new people in a really difficult time for her. My mum is an amazing supportive individual, and therefore anything that helps my mum live a happier life since my dad has gone holds a very dear place in my heart.
This will be my third marathon is as many years, and what started as a fitness challenge now represents a significant part of my life both personally, and through the opportunity to raise money for important causes. Running the London marathon is especially amazing, holding an iconic status in world marathons, but also as London was my home for 10 years and yet I have always struggled to gain a place. Running in 2026 is therefore particularly special, and I'm hoping to gain a Personal Best through consistent training. Your support means so much to me, my family and the u3a and will motivate me to get around the course and hopefully achieve that PB!
U3a changes lives by helping build vibrant, inclusive communities where older people can stay active, connected and engaged. Your support enables us, The Third Age Trust, to tackle isolation, support the well-being of our members, and create a future where later life is rich with opportunity.
By running for Team u3a, I will be raising money to help the Third Age Trust create more opportunities for the u3a members to learn, find connection and live life to the full. Together we can combat loneliness and make sure everyone has a positive experience of later life.
