Soo Bin Choi
My Story
The cause:
Hello! Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
On 26th April 2026, I will be running the London Marathon (all 26.2 miles of it) in the capital. This will be to raise funds for The Gardens Trust, a UK national charity that campaigns to undertake research for and preserve the natural landscapes in the UK.
About myself:
I'm Soo Bin, I have enjoyed spending time in natural spaces throughout my life. Having lived in multiple different countries such as South Korea, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom; I've developed an appreciation for different environments.
I've also been an avid long distance runner for the past decade. A hobby that I picked up during my time in the military, it gave me comfort and an escape during the lonely long hours in an isolated base. I now take part in a weekly social run through parks, thanks to a wonderful organisation called Parkrun. I'm not exaggerating when I say that this has been a cornerstone of both my mental & physical wellbeing.
Being South Korean, a country that was ravaged by multiple wars in the 20th century, I have always had a keen awareness of the void that the lack of cultural and natural spaces can have in the lives of people.
I believe The Gardens Trust's mission is both noble and crucial to the preservation of landscapes (and their heritage) for society to enjoy.
In the coming weeks, I will be training for the marathon and sharing my progress. The hours will be long and the training outdoors during these darker winter months will be tough, however I am certain I will be having the time of my life regardless. This will now be my 4th marathon and I am absolutely stoked that it will be London. A World Major marathon that I had been pursuing for years.
Thank you again for taking the time to read my rambling!
Any small contribution to The Gardens Trust via the link below would be very much appreciated! It is a smaller, lesser known charity with a big mission!
