My Story

I am running the London Marathon 2026 for First Days Childrens charity. Yes, I've run marathons before, but not for 8 years, pre medications, aches, pains, middle age weight gain and grey hairs! I'm starting my training again from nothing. Last week I managed my first 5k in a very long time. In 6 months I shall be running, walking or crawling the 26.2 miles of London Marathon, probably whilst sweating and swearing a lot. (I hated it last time and swore I would never run another marathon!) So why on earth am I putting myself and my body through this again? Good question... and here's the answer:

First days is a small local charity supporting families across Wokingham, Bracknell and Reading who are living below the poverty line. First Days don't just hand out warm beds, school shoes or coats (though they do all of that and more), they support parents who are trying to rebuild their lives — after homelessness, after crisis, after incredibly tough times.

They help parents access essential items with dignity, they connect them to long-term support, and they empower them to take steps forward. That’s what makes their work so special: it’s not just about things — it’s about change.

Last year they supported 9,047 children, and their parents, across Wokingham, Bracknell and Reading. Each year, they need to raise £400,000 to deliver their services in the community. I have pledged to help raise £2500 of that massive sum. A drop in the ocean, perhaps, but every penny counts! So if you are able to help me get to that target I will be truly grateful, so will First Days and so will the parents and children that support. Thank you! 💙
