My Story
In April, I’ll be running the London Marathon in support of Mates in Mind, a charity who provide training and raise awareness of mental-ill health in construction. This cause is very close to my heart as in April 2019, I lost my dad to suicide after a short period of mental-ill health due to stress at work.
My dad was a civil engineer by trade and worked his way up to become a respected senior construction manager. He was dedicated to his work, a natural leader, and a mentor to so many young people starting out in the industry. He was also a devoted family man, loved by his colleagues, friends and, by us his family.
Despite all of his achievements and the love around him, Dad took his own life. His story is a painful reminder that mental health struggles can affect anyone, no matter how strong, successful, or loved they are.
Too many people in the industry struggle in silence, and I want to do my bit to change that.
By running 26.2 miles, I’m honouring my dad’s memory and helping raise vital funds so Mates in Mind can continue their work supporting mental health and breaking the stigma.
If you’re able to, please donate, every penny will make a difference and help save lives.
Thank you so much for your support 💙
