My Story
Thank you for visiting my page.
A few years ago, my mum was diagnosed with mixed dementia - vascular dementia and Alzheimer's. As a family, it has been heartbreaking to watch this condition rapidly take a hold of her and experience the daily challenges it brings.
Dementia has stolen mum's memories, independence and her ability to carry out simple, every day tasks. From our perspective, it has stolen our beautiful mum from us.
In 2000, I watched mum proudly cross the finish line of the London Marathon. 26 years on, I'll be following in her footsteps to raise awareness of the condition which has so cruelly impacted all our lives, but especially hers.
I've been fortunate enough to obtain a charity place through the Alzheimer's Society, a charity that does vital work to support individuals and families like mine to navigate the emotional rollercoaster dementia can bring as well as funding critical research.
The run will be emotional. I'll be running for the woman who taught me strength, resilience and how to keep going even when things get tough.
If you're in a position to donate, please consider donating to my page. All donations will be going to the Alzheimer's Society to promote a future where dementia no longer defines so many lives.
Lots of love,
Tom
