My Story
Some people will call this a mid-life crisis, and they might be right. After all, why does anyone set out to run 26.2 miles after they’ve turned 50?
In my case, here's a great reason: this year’s London Marathon is my opportunity to raise money for two fantastic F1-related charities. And it's not only me: I’m running alongside my son and daughter, and four-time F1 world champion Sebastian Vettel.
We're raising money for the Brain & Spine Foundation (brainandspine.org.uk) and The Grand Prix Trust (grandprixtrust.com). Two charities that have been at the heart of F1 for more than 30 years.
The Brain & Spine Foundation was founded by former F1 medical boss Professor Sid Watkins and its current president Peter Hamlyn. The charity transforms the daily lives of people affected by neurological conditions through frontline professional services, innovative research and bold campaigning for change.
The Grand Prix Trust helps F1’s trackside and factory-based personnel in their times of need, whatever challenges they may face. It also funds an annual bursary for motorsport college students, helping to ensure the sport remains open and accessible to anyone and everyone.
So, no mid-life crisis for me (yet). Just two great charities that need our support. Thanks in advance for any donations and, if you’re ‘trackside’ on April 26th on the streets of London, please shout some encouragement to Sebastian, Paddy, Corinna and me!
