My Story

Hi and welcome to my Sponsorship Story

I am so pleased to be taking part in the London Marathon 2026 to raise funds for the charity Action Medical Research for Children. Also taking part in many other running and cycling events throughout 2024-2026.

The main goal is the  London Marathon 26.2 miles is a huge personal challenge for me to reach, but I am determined to do this. From a non sports person only starting running in 2024 my training has been tough. However I started cycling 5 years ago and have supported Action Medical Research in the past. As part of the build up to the main event I will be undertaking other events including Ely Tri-fest Half Marathon October 2025, Run 10K in the Fen October 2025, Cycling Spin 160K December 2025, Cambridge Half Marathon March 2026, London Landmarks Half Marathon 2026, London Marathan 2026, Newmarket Half Marathon 2026, and more to be added, with donations from some of these events going into my London Marathon fundaising target.

Action Medical Research for Children is the leading UK-wide British Medical Research Charity, their mission is to save and change children’s lives through medical research, developing treatments, vaccinations and cures. For 70 years they have helped beat polio, fight Meningitis, prevent stillbirth and develop ultrasound scanning in pregnancy to name a few of their achievements.

Me and my young daughter have chosen to support this charity as it also has a very personal link for us. My daughter (Maisie) has had to struggle with illness all her life to this day, this has meant that she is extremely susceptible to infections. Having a sick child has such an impact on the whole family anything that can be done to help with prevention and treatment will benefit so many families, like mine. Without such research my special girl may not have been here today. Maisie has had scarlet fever; which Action have recently funded a study looking at how to control the spread of scarlet fever. It has highlighted the importance of prompt antibiotic treatment and hopes to influence public health guidance on how to reduce transmission.

Action Medical Research also supports work into a number of lung diseases affecting babies and young children, including bronchiolitis, bronchopulmonary dysplasia and rare genetic lung diseases. Maisie has sadly suffered from countless lung infections so this again is very close to my heart. A current study is looking at how an artificial intelligence tool can be used to reduce the risk of babies developing a severe lung condition. Action is also currently funding two studies investigating the impact of long COVID on children and young people. Again this crosses with my daughters illness.

My daughter is unwell at present and we hope research will continue to help unwell babies, children and young lifes like my daughter.

This fantastic charity would not be able to fund such important research and development without the support of fundraisers; of which I am so happy to be, not only will I be fulfilling a personal challenge of participating in the London Marathon but by doing so will be helping raise funds for this vital charity.

I hope you are able to support me in this fundraising event.

Thank you very much.
