Sierra Leone Grammar School (SLGS)
Sierra Leone Grammar School, or SLGS, is West Africa’s oldest educational institution, dedicated to nurturing the country’s most promising young minds since its founding in 1845. Its distinguished alumni include ministers, senior civil servants, eminent lawyers, and pioneering medical professionals.
While SLGS has a proud tradition of academic excellence, years of regional challenges have left the school in urgent need of repair, renovation, and modernisation. Today, we are actively working to transform the campus into a hub for STEM and computer science, with key projects such as the construction of new science labs, enhanced digital infrastructure, and modern learning spaces.
Thanks to generous donor support, we have already made significant progress, including improvements to internet connectivity, upgraded ICT facilities, and the introduction of innovative learning programmes. However, there is still much to do.
Your sponsorship continues to support crucial initiatives, including:
- The free STEM Holiday Club, which this year will introduce Chess and Mathematics as new modules, alongside existing subjects like Digital Literacy, Coding, Robotics, Entrepreneurship, Audio Podcasting, Graphic Design, and Video Editing.
- The SLGS Gifted and Talented (GaT) scholarship fund, established in 2005 to assist students facing financial or personal challenges.
- The SLGS Innovation Programme, which immerses students in a world-class STEM curriculum.
- The modernisation of our science facilities, replacing outdated classrooms with spacious, fully equipped spaces.
- A modernised computer lab with the latest hardware and software.
- Expanded internet connectivity, ensuring all students can access digital learning resources.
Looking ahead, we remain committed to embedding STEM learning at SLGS and ensuring every student has access to the best possible education. However, much of our progress depends on the continued belief and investment of our generous donors. Our ambitious plans to modernise the school—particularly our science facilities—will only become reality with vital financial support.
