SportInspired

Every child deserves the chance to thrive – but for many, the odds are stacked against them.

In the UK today, children growing up in poverty are three times more likely to experience poor mental health and twice as likely to face obesity. They are less likely to be active, less likely to succeed in school, and more likely to get caught up in anti-social behaviour. Not because they lack potential – but because they lack opportunity.

At SportInspired, we refuse to accept that a child’s postcode should define their future.

Our journey began when our co-founder – and now CEO – Richard Raynes started a small rugby club in Hackney. He saw too many young people with nothing to do and nowhere to belong. In a community often overlooked, he created a space where children could find joy, purpose, and a team to believe in them. The transformation he witnessed was extraordinary.

That small beginning grew into something bigger. In 2008, SportInspired was born – a movement powered by local voices, community spirit, and the belief that sport can change lives. Since then, we’ve delivered over 450 programmes, reaching more than 97,000 children in the UK’s most deprived areas.

We don’t just introduce children to sport – we help them discover confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging. We work with schools, local organisations, and families to bring fun and play back into young lives – because enjoyment is the key to unlocking long-term change.

In 2019, Sport England chose us to help transform the lives of thousands more – because they saw what we already knew: that joy, movement, and connection can rewrite a child’s future.

But we’re not done yet. Far from it.

There are still too many children growing up believing there’s nothing out there for them. Too many missing out on the health, happiness, and hope that every child deserves.

With your support, we can reach them. We can be there – on the playground, in the sports hall, in their corner. We can give them a reason to believe in themselves.

Together, we can change lives – one game, one smile, one child at a time.
