My Story

Hi everyone,

I may be in the midsts of a pre-40 mini crisis, but I'm excited (and more than a bit nervous) to announce that I'm going to be running the London Marathon in April!

And why am I doing this?

A good question you might ask!? But to put it simply - it has been a dream for many years to take on this iconic race, around the city I now call home. I grew up watching the event on TV each year and feeling an enormous sense of admiration for everybody taking on the huuuge challenge.

So, fast forward a few years, and now that I actually participate in running rather than simply spectate, it’s time for me to step up and take it on myself.

Over the next 4 months, I'll be busy preparing, pushing myself to get out running in the long dark months ahead, so that I’m ready for the epic 26.2-mile distance come Spring. It’s definitely going to be tough - if it wasn’t it wouldn’t be a challenge, but knowing that I'm running for a fantastic cause will keep me going.

So why run for Ability Bow?

I'm running to raise vital funds for Ability Bow, a small but mighty charity based near where I live in East London. Ability Bow supports people in my community living with physical or mental health conditions, disabilities, and long-term illnesses by providing incredibly important inclusive fitness and rehabilitation services where there otherwise aren't.

I know that regular exercise can be transformatory - both physically and mentally. It is something that continues to help me as I navigate through life.  I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to participate in exercise, independently of their circumstance. For many, this gym is the only place they can access safe, tailored, and an affordable means to keep active, which caters to their specific needs. By supporting me, you are directly helping Ability Bow continue to offer one-on-one support, specialised equipment, and a welcoming, dedicated community where people can build their strength, confidence and resilience.

Each step of the marathon (notably the later ones...), I’ll be thinking of the positive impact that Ability Bow makes. Please consider supporting my challenge and, more importantly, supporting the people whose lives continue to be transformed by this charity.

Thank you so much for your support, whether large or small - it means a great deal to me and to Ability Bow.

Keep tuned via socials for updates over the next few months.

Peace and Love, Gemma
